4 Inspiring Female Painters You Should be Following on Instagram

These days, it is easy to find these amazingly talented artists through social media platforms. I consider myself to be a very lucky artist when it comes to having some amazing examples of contemporary painters who support and admire one another. I have experienced a tremendous amount of peer support from so many artists, but I feel a special bond with female painters. Statistics show that the art world, like most other career fields, aren’t equal for men and women. Because of this, I have experienced the women around me becoming especially supportive of other female artists. Here are 5 inspiring female painters that you should be following on Instagram:

Natalie Featherson @nfeatherston_fine_art

Natalie is a trompe l’oeil oil painter, amazingly kind person, and breast cancer survivor (like me!). I am a total fan-girl. She usually crafts her subjects from various still life objects and the end result shows her humor, wit, and fun-loving personality. Below is one of my favorites of Natalie’s work, and yes, the edges of that “box” are all just a flat painting surface that she has masterfully transformed with a brush. Megan Elizabeth Read @mae.read

Megan (Mae) Read works in oils and focuses on still life and the female form. Her paintings are hauntingly beautiful with dark backgrounds, and a lot of negative space. They are very impactful and she is so deserving of the numerous accolades that Mae has garnered for herself. The way she can paint the female form, and hands in particular, is striking. I love to see her Instagram posts of what she is working on and I am willing to bet you will too.

Mia Bergeron @miabergeron

Mia Bergeron’s dream-like oil paintings are unlike the works of any other artist. Mia’s work is heavily textured, but the true magic of it is in her use of color and value to convey light. It seems as if the subjects in some of her paintings are actually glowing. I love that Mia can paint multiple subjects, but her work is so incredibly recognizable as hers. Megan Aline @megan_aline

Megan Aline is a double threat in the art world as a painter and gallery owner. It is amazing when someone takes on just one of those career roles and does it half as well as Megan does. She paints the dreamiest nature scenes, usually in a small format, but creates such detail and nostalgia in her work. Megan spent a lot of time in Maine during her childhood and it is easy to see how much that has impacted her and her painting. Perhaps that’s why lately she has been creating breathtaking silhouette paintings in which the nature scenes blur into beautiful abstract smudges of paint, like the piece below. Click below to see more of her work that will make you want to go spend time sitting in the woods.
